Nursery Update
I can finally say I feel like the nursery is in a good place now!
It’s been awhile since I posted about it. We have ripped up the carpet, painted some of the walls and the trim. The electrical and plates updated – I think our whole house may be done now (thanks to Mark and my Father-in-law, David). And we purchased or moved in the furniture and accessories that I currently want in there.
A quick rundown on some of the new stuff:
The White Crib
We purchased it from Kohls.com – I used a coupon and Kohls cash – also got more Kohls cash for the purchase… Score.
The Grey Rocking Chair
We waited for a coupon code online and found a site that offered free shipping – this was the most expensive piece that we bought. I wanted a nice piece of furniture that could eventually live in another room of the house and fit in. I love it.
The White Bookshelf
Ordered from Walmart.com – I found that I had 2 gift cards from work that I had yet to use to put towards it. I thought it was also worthwhile to have this piece just delivered to the house (plus I don’t believe white was offered in the store). It was fairly heavy (~80 lbs it was boxed up flat) We unboxed it and brought the pieces upstairs. I like how big and solid the outside pieces are on this one. However, it’s just particle board covered in white – and I slightly damaged an inside shelf putting it together – but you can’t tell… But I know (and now so do you!)
The Grey Bookshelf Boxes
Also ended up getting at Walmart – Target’s cubes (The Room Essentials line) were smaller for their main system. They had some more expensive boxes that were $12.99/each that I believe would have fit (part of the Threshold line) but I decided to give Walmart a try and bought these grey cubes instead for $5.67 each. In store, they didn’t have a ton of color options which is how I ended up with the grey. That’s okay, it works for me!
Flor Modular Carpet
We picked out our colors and pattern using their online carpet viewer. We put the room measurements in and went from there. We love how this came together and we purchased the recommended number of extra squares just in case one gets so stained and it needs to be replaced. Love that the individual squares can be removed and scrubbed if needed. We waited for a 25% off sitewide sale to order these. This was a close 2nd for the most expensive thing in our nursery. We ended up ordering from the ‘Made You Look’ line.
White Blackout Roman Shades
We looked at a bunch of places including local stores and at custom blinds but ended up with these from Wayfair. They were easy to install and what we were looking for. One had a weird glitch where the “hidden” handle for pulling it up and down on the back of the shade was slightly longer than the bottom of the shade – I fixed it with a few safety pins… Works for me.
Woodland Nursery Art
I also found these adorable prints on Etsy that I had to have. They were from Sweet Melody Designs, love them! You can customize the colors, but I went with the standard colors that she had – they work pretty good in the room, I didn’t realize the background of these were a cream/off-white, I might have chosen a pure white had I realized it before ordering, but no big deal. The picture frames came from Michaels – on sale – another Score!
Fox Clock
I saw this fox clock early on in a magazine and ordered it – for some reason I thought it was going to be larger – guess I didn’t pay attention to the specs, oh well, it still is cute and works to tell time!
The 2 Silver/Grey Lights on the Dresser
I found those at our local HomeGoods store – I liked the metal on them (more “child friendly” than the glass ones – without being cute-sy) and I think they can grow to become good nightstand lights – if not here, than in another room in the house. I believe they may have been $34.99 each.
In addition to all of this – we were showered with love and gifts – a lot of the accessories and details! Everything from the crib mattress, sheets, blankets and accessories, lots of books (love our mini-library!), toys, pacifiers, clothes, changing pad and assorted other baby related items (obviously some not pictured here in the nursery)!
Some crafty gifts I received included:
– This lovely crocheted blanket and newborn hat (Thanks Cindy!)
– Adorable burp cloths (Thanks Christina!)
– The curtains – I picked out the fabric, and helped a little bit – but credit really goes to my mother-in-law, Susan (Thanks Susan!)
– And as a future homemade gift I got a certificate for a customized monogrammed glass bird with babies name and birthdate in a color of my choice. Obviously we have to wait and see for this one… (Thanks Jen!)
Things that I created:
I was on a roll right before Christmas making stuffed animals. I gifted 2 of these to babies as gifts – the rest are waiting for baby Hedberg. I found the patterns on Pinterest. Not too hard to follow.
I also created this hot air balloon picture. I found the vector art online and pulled it apart in Adobe Illustrator so I could print the background separate than the foxes and balloons. I then pasted them on foam core and cut them out and pasted them together. It has a 3D look to it – but it is super light weight due to the foamcore board.
In addition to all of this – there also was a diaper raffle at one baby shower. So, we now currently have a mini-stockpile of diapers ready to go! Every time I look in the closet I think it kinda looks like a store. No complaints!
I am excited for the arrival of this baby – It won’t be long now! I will be 36 weeks tomorrow! Time flies!
